Laughter Capture

Although I have been looking at mainly photographs as a mean of capture, I also wanted to branch out and look at other aspects of our senses...other recording devices that we rely on as a trigger for our memory. The voice recorder is another object that only records one aspect of a memory.....I wanted to start to play with this and try and create ways in which it can be used to give us ambiguous results. The what happened before and after....??? Missing the moment....

I started sketching ideas of how a wine glass is used as form of silence for a speech to start. It is tapped so that the person making the speech can have everyone's attention. I wanted to start to focus on one situation so that the object would make sense......

A WEDDING.

The best man taps the wine glass in order to start his speech. This then would trigger the recording device to start. (One always wants to remember the speech). But what if the speech itself is not recorded only the reactions, the laughter and applause. How would this alter the memory? It takes the decision away from the individual to decide to capture something, it does it for itself....with a trigger. (the wine glass being tapped)

This is what my first attempt at making the wine glass looked like.....
