The Decay of the Memory
Not only have I been looking at the object that takes the image but also how the memory itself can decay over time. I have tried to illustrate this in a series of experiments where the object that holds the memory decays. This is in the form of a locket, a zoetrope, a photo frame, a photo album, a CD case, a record cover. This is where the object that holds the memory in turn destroys it over time.
The locket slowly destroys the image of the loved one inside. This is to perhaps teach how you can slowly let go of a physical presence of a memory and be left with something much more subtle.
The zoetrope decays the image the more you watch it and spin it. The more you rely on the memory the quicker it destroys.
The photo frame has an abrasive material behind the image so that it again slowly destroys the image that we proudly sit on our mantle piece.
The exact same principal has been instilled in the photo album.
The cd case and record case have both got abrasive materials in them. Therefore the more you listen to the record the more id decays.
